Samenvatting

The bone assemblage from a 16th-century cesspit at manor house ‘De Kranen-burg’ (Overijssel). The large number of different species encountered among the bones in the fill of a cesspit at Kranenburg manor house (prov. of Overijssel) is an indicator for the high social rank of the residents. These people had the power to tap many different food resources. Among the finds was the phalanx of a crane’s wing, pointing towards the name of the house, which translates as Crane Castle.
