Terzijde van de weg naar Santiago, of: kijken naar waar de neus niet heenwijst
Beside the road to Santiago, or: looking sideways. The author draws attention to phenomena generally little noticed or considered, or even ignored, reflecting on his experiences while travelling and attending conferences. Examples are a rare group of early medieval churches in northern Spain off the pilgrims’ road to Santiago de Compostela; the amazing information from cropmarks in aerial photographs: Neolithic enclosures all over Europe, ring ditches from a thousand(!) Bronze Age barrows in Flanders; and the dry-land sites to be expected from several periods of the Swiss Neolithic for which lakeside settlements have not been demonstrated.
