Nieuw licht op de late ijzertijd: twee vermoedelijke sierknoppen van gordelhaken uit het Friese terpengebied

Samenvatting

Shedding new light on the Late Iron Age: two presumable ornamental belt-hook knobs from the Frisian terp region. Metal-detectorists’ collections are a rich source of archaeological finds. Two of these finds are discussed here: bronze heads of split pins, decorated with a cross of V-shaped grooves. The heads may have belonged to exclusive, late La Tène belt hooks of the type Kessel A (La Tène D ), produced in the central and eastern part of the Dutch river area and never previously found outside this region. The importance of the two finds lies in the fact that they will have been exchanged in interregional networks, which points to the presence of local and perhaps even regional elites in the northern Netherlands during the late Iron Age.
