Samenvatting

Protohistorical sites in and around Tusculum (municipality of Monte Porzio Catone, Alban Hills, Italy). This article reviews the published and unpublished protohistorical finds from the municipality of Monte Porzio Catone (Alban hills, Italy) and discusses the settlement patterns that emerge, especially in relation to the site of Tusculum, which is now known to have been continuously occupied since the Late Bronze Age. Tusculum, like other contemporary settlements in the area of the Alban hills, is situated in a highly defensible position that also allows control of the access routes to the caldera of Lago di Albano and of the regional routes between Campania and Etruria. The article presents a small part of the author’s ongoing research on the settlement characteristics of Southern Lazio in the Bronze and Iron Ages.
