Samenvatting

A bowl and a dish of the Late Havelte phase of the Funnel Beaker Culture from Oostrum (Friesland). Under the terp of Oostrum (Fr.) the Pleistocene sandy subsoil rises almost to Dutch Ordnance Survey Datum. In 1971, digging in this Pleistocene soil below a quarried-away part of the terp revealed a complete necked bowl and a fragment of a large straight-sided dish, almost certainly together, and probably with the dish upside-down over the bowl. Both belong to the Late Havelte phase of the Funnel Beaker Culture. A small excavation in March 1974 proved unable to elucidate the context of the find. In any case it seems safer to refer to this find as a ceramic deposit rather than a flat grave, especially since cremated bones were neither mentioned by the finders nor discovered during the excavation.
