Samenvatting

A close look at the inventory of a clinker-built ship from the 16th century. The wreck in lot U 34, in the polder of Eastern Flevoland, was excavated in 1986 and 1987. During the excavation nearly 800 artefacts were recovered. Objects belonging to the ship’s equipment, working equipment and military equipment were found, but also artefacts from the ship’s inventory, such as tools, furniture, items from the hearth and galley, crockery and provisions. The crew had many personal belongings with them, such as shoes, knives, a small bible or booklet, thimbles and a badge. The artefacts give us information about the ship itself, her provenance and range, her crew and eventual foundering. We now know that this ship had once been heavily armoured and probably carried no cargo when she was wrecked. The ship was probably of Dutch origin and had a crew of at least ten.
