Memories of Jan Dijkstra (April 29, 1907 – March 20, 2006). On March 20, 2006 the former administrator of the Biologisch-Archaeologisch Instituut, Jan Dijkstra, died at the age of nearly 99 years. In 1922, aged 15, he had entered service with the university service. Together with draughtsman Lambertus Postema and field technician Jan Lanting he formed the team that assisted Van Giffen at his successful excavations of megalithic tombs, barrows, urn fields and dwelling mounds (and with the resulting publications) in the pioneer period of the Institute before the Second World War.
