Boren bij Doug’s duin. Op zoek naar vindplaatsen bij Swifterbant (Fl.)

Samenvatting

Coring at Doug’s dune. Looking for sites at Swifterbant (province of Flevoland). In 2008 a coring campaign around one of the river dunes in the Swifterbant area (S21-S24) was carried out with the aim of finding refuse layers around the dune similar to those around river dunes in the Rhine/Meuse area. Such layers were not found. The fieldwork yielded the first evidence of a new branch of the Swifterbant creek system at a deeper level. The coring campaign showed that there is a 10 m wide levee between this creek and the dune, which may have served as a waterfront zone to the dune-top settlement. Here charcoal was found. Further research must determine the archaeological relevance of these charcoal finds.
