Samenvatting

Summary: Pincevent (France) revisited: a winter house with a hearth. A fascinating publication by 15 authors about ‘a last winter at Pincevent’ describes two habitation units in niveau IV-0. Unit T125 comprises two hearths (here called A, in the north, and B, in the south). In this paper, the outcomes of ring analyses of artefacts around both hearths are presented. The reason for this exercise is that Bodu et al. concluded that hearth B was inside a dwelling structure. This is surprising because all other units of Pincevent analysed so far have hearths in the open air (possibly a few metres outside the entrances of dwelling structures). Our analyses confirm that hearth B was located inside a dwelling with a diameter of circa 5 m and a main entrance in the east. Hearth A, which was used contemporaneously, was located in the open air.
