Archeobotanisch onderzoek op het kasteelterrein ‘Paddepoel-Zernikelaan’ (Gr.)

Samenvatting

Archaeobotanical research at the castle site ‘Paddepoel-Zernikelaan’ (municipality Groningen). A comparison of the arable crops from two sites of the same period was made. We compared a medieval steenhuis (fortified house) site in Paddepoel and a steenhuis site in De Hunze, about four kilometres apart. At Paddepoel more kinds of as well as greater amounts of cultivated plant remains were found, including six-row barley, wheat and spelt. Besides cereals, flax and hemp were cultivated at both sites. At Paddepoel there also must have been a mustard-field.
