Samenvatting

The late-medieval ‘Hof te Dwingeloo’ (province of Drenthe) located. Archaeological research at a building site in the village of Dwingeloo (municipality of Westerveld) revealed traces of several late-medieval storage buildings and ditches. These features can be linked to the historically known ‘Hof te Dwingeloo’, a large farmstead of the then local gentry (families Van Ansen and De Vos van Steenwijk), which can be dated from the 12th into the first half of the 15th century. The nature of the buildings (storage) and their location at the edge of the ‘Hof’ also fit, for in those days it was usual for storage buildings to be placed at the edge of the farmyard, while the main building was placed more centrally. This investigation shows once more that historical and archaeological research can successfully go hand in hand.
