Samenvatting

A part of a bronze horse bit in the House of the Tub (New Halos, Greece). A bronze tube with a crenate surface was found in the House of the Tub in the lower town of the Hellenistic city, New Halos (Thessaly, Greece). A study of similar bronze finds reveals that this object was part of a horse bit with revolving, sharp parts. This type of bit probably originated from Asia Minor and may have been introduced in Greece during the Persian conflicts in the 5th and 4th centuries BC. The bronze tube and other weaponry from the House of the Tub are the first indications for the presence of a (civilian) garrison in New Halos.
