Over het ontstaan van het academieportret van Tjalling Waterbolk

Samenvatting

On the history of the portret of Tjalling Waterbolk. About 25 years after his retirement, Prof. H. Tjalling Waterbolk from the former Biological-Archaeological Institute was given an academic portrait. He is depicted against a background showing an Iron Age farmstead under excavation, a replica of a photo from his latest book. This portrait will be presented to the University of Groningen and will be hung in the chamber of the Faculty of Arts in the Academy Building. The portrait was painted by Max Stokvis, a local artist from Groningen. A fundraiser conducted by Waterbolk’s former colleagues, students, friends, family members and institutions was responsible for commissioning this painting. The unveiling of the portrait was accompanied by two speeches by Jos Bazelmans and Prof. Tjalling Waterbolk.
