Samenvatting

A peculiar peat feature. In the summer of 2014, archeological research was carried out on a presumable dwelling mound in the former peatland of Neerwolde, south of the city of Groningen. During these investigations, however, no remains of the expected habitation were found. Instead, long alignments consisting of dried peat blocks came to light, together with glazed potsherds from the 18th century. It is likely that these features were connected to the peat-cutting activities which took place at Neerwolde between 1780 and 1820. As an interpretation, it is suggested that they formed the footing of sheds that were used to dry and store the freshly-cut peat.
