Abstract

Excavation data and material from the De Leijen-Wartena Complex locality Tietjerk-Lytse Geast I were studied in order to discern extraction camps from maintenance camps. The contribution of ethnography towards understanding season-linked site variation in archaeology is outlined and related to some cases from the Mesolithic of Northwest Europe. Problems concerning the sample and statistical method are dealt with before a quantitative analyses of the flint takes place. Results are compared with data from Bergumermeer S 64 B, a supposed maintenance camp from the same complex.
