Samenvatting

This article questions whether naturalization can be observed in historical and explanatory sociological research. Naturalization is described as the process in which social phenomena are presented as natural givens, not as constructed through human agency in processes of interpretation. Signs of naturalization are detected in research reports from both sociological approaches. Several explanations for naturalization in sociological research are suggested. Rigorous constructivism is proposed as a solution. The realization of such constructivism can be enhanced by the introduction of a sociological theory of language, as developed in the philosophy of language and in text sociology.
