Samenvatting

This article presents an overview of research into the labour market position of sociologists. Although national representative data are scarce, and local surveys are often not comparable with respect to research design, definition et cetera, the general conclusion is that the labour market position of sociologists is not as bad as public opinion states. Unemployment-figures are only slightly higher than average, but the duration of those who are unemployed is considerably higher. Labour market forecasts point to favourable perspectives for social scientists. The future labour market position seems therefore primarily dependent on the comparative advantages that sociologists will have above graduates form related disciplines.
