Samenvatting
In this article we study recent developments in married women's economic dependency in the Netherlands. The results indicate that on the aggregate level women's economic dependency is decreasing. Nevertheless, a vast majority is still completely or strongly dependent on the husband's income. The observed downward trend is primarily attributable to women's increased labour supply. Their improved educational level shows only a weak influence. Our results have implications for the debate on how to incorporate women in class analysis and stratification research. In our view the findings call for new approaches, ones that do not disregard the social positions women occupy.
