Samenvatting

A number of articles issued in Mens en Maatschppij during the years 1940 to 1945 are surveyed & extensively quoted. They are grouped under five themes: (1) the reaction of a scientific journal to war time, (2) everyday business totally removed from external circumstances, (3) racism, (4) an early caricature of sociolinguistics in support of racism, & (5) the heredity hypothesis. No attempt at completeness is made & no statistics are presented. The choice of articles was guided by a particular conception of what was important during that period. A. Orianne.
