Samenvatting
To determine whether an oversupply of Dutch sociologists explains their poor job opportunities, 1985-1987 graduates (N = 1,080) in the fields of sociology, economics, psychology, & law were surveyed. Eight possible explanations for weak job market positions among sociology graduates are tested against the data, but only two are supported: sociology courses are attended by a disproportionate number of students with unfavorable hiring chances; & the courses apply comparatively low standards of selectivity. 13 Tables, 1 Figure, 10 References.
