Samenvatting

Underdevelopment from a sociological viewpoint, Up till now the sociological study of the problem of underdevelopment has largely been seen as a residu problem remaining form an economic approach. The author tries to give a pure sociological approach in the form of six propositions. (1) In an underdeveloped territory tendencies of secularization often appear in an acute and pernicious way. (2) Underdevelopment means incoherence and invariance of forms of social organization. (3) Social differentiation in an underdeveloped territory is not integrated into one whole system. (4) Forms of social control are of rather reduced value. (5) There is no integration of the national organization (state) into the social life of the underdeveloped territory. (6) The systems of communication within an underdeveloped territory and with other territories are fragmentary and erratic.
