Samenvatting

Two problems in designing case-studies are tackled: (a) selecting one versus selecting several cases; (b) how to select cases. Existing strategies such as selecting cases on the basis of maximizing or minimizing variance between the cases are discussed. Introduction of the often implicit difference between selecting on the independent or the dependent variables leads to a rejection of selection on the dependent variables.
