The article discusses various issues related to certain ethical and social dilemmas associated with the profession of sociology, with specific reference to the issue of confidentiality and protection of personal life environment. It makes a comparison between the professional practices in sociological and anthropological associations in the Netherlands and the U.S. Confidentiality has been guaranteed in the profession code of the American Sociological Association (ASA). Ethics of the ASA states that confidential information must be addressed as confidentially by a sociologist.
