Samenvatting

Personal networks in the Netherlands are investigated using interview data obtained in a representative national survey (N = 9,850 respondents [Rs]). Three approaches to measure personal networks are presented: (1) social integration, (2) social support, & (3) social networks. Analysis reveals that Rs are well integrated into many kinds of institutions, eg, family, church, & informal & formal group affiliations. Most people receive some social support, often apart from family. A strong correlation was demonstrated between network characteristics & education & urbanism.
