Samenvatting

Three types of research methods used to explore sex differences in the screening of job applicants are shown to differ in how they acknowledge disparate impact & hidden discrimination. The research of A. E. M. van Vianen (Het Selectie-interview. Over de Rol van Seksestereotypen [Selection Interviews. The Role of Sex Stereotyping], Leiden, 1987) is critiqued. Results of a study on the relationship between sex-role stereotypes & requisite management characteristics show that the "ideal candidate is a woman." It is concluded that attention must be paid not only to the stereotyping of characteristics, but also to the extent these characteristics are relevant for selection in the particular company. 7 Tables, 17 References.
