If language is regarded as an important soc medium, linguists are concerned with many problems of a soc & psychol'al nature. Changes of sounds & phonetic systems can be considered & explained in a phonetic & phonemic way. Changes of words & names are nearly always influenced by soc relations in the widest sense. Examples are given of these soc relations & their consequences in diff parts of the Netherlands, to illustrate the theoretical explanation. Motives of some regional movements for the rights of regional languages & dialects in soc life are discussed & character of these movements are described. AA.
