Samenvatting
A study of the relations between changing technology & industr org, based on an examination of the existing literature. After defining & explaining automation, an evaluation of the 'classical theories of org' is presented (Thomas, Fayol, Mooney, etc). These theories are found to agree with C. J. Haberstroh, & are primarily efficiency-oriented. But the challenge of automation has found such theories inadequate because they overconcentrate on formal aspects of org with neglect of technological aspects of the enterprise. Hence the rise of 'socio-technical system theories' (E. L. Trist, A. K. Rice, R. Dubin, J. Woodward, I. R. Bright, etc), which are 'open' & aim at a complete task structure, including changing technology. A 70-item Bibliog. I. Langnas.
