Samenvatting

A study of the role of friendship among the inhabitants of the village of Swifterbant, established in 1954-1962 on the land won from the Zuiderzee & peopled mostly by former workers employed in its creation. It is based on the author's residence in Swifterbant (Jul 1964-Sep 1965) & on a M admin'ed in the winter of 1964-5 to 105 fam's. Statistics are offered on N of friends per fam (0 for 5; 1 for 15; 2 for 25; 3 for 22; 4 for 20; 5 for 11; 6 for 4; 7 for 3); use of evening hours by 70 couples; ways in which friends were met; selection of friends in function of variables (work situation & church membership; soc contacts).
