CriticLSm is presented on the lack of historical dimension in G. Kuiper's res on unionism (see SA 0621/C6444). It is argued that sociol must utilize the historical approach if it is to lead to understanding the major problems of contemporary unionism. These should be seen against the background of the historical process, in which unionism takes on new forms to fulfill its central function in a changing society.
