A discussion of the relationship of sociol to soc work, based on conferences held with professors of sociol at 10 Sch's of soc work in the US. The past 8 yrs have seen an increase in & more direct contact between the 2 disciplines. Programs related to the 'war on poverty' employ many sociol'ts & a sci'fic approach is required of soc workers involved in community action programs. The strategy of the 'war on poverty' is based largely on the theories of R. Cloward & L. Ohlin, as detailed in DELINQUENCY AND OPPORTUNITY (see SA A4411). Younger soc workers display a growing interest in purposive structural change. It is noted that impressive results are not seen as far as individual psychoanalytically oriented soc work is concerned. The so-called soc system approach leans more & more on a conflict type of societal model which is used not only by practitioners such as S. Alinsky, but also in sociol'al theory. Modified AA.
