A report on a study designed to test the results of the presence of a 3rd person at an interview. I. Gadourek suggested that this presence made itself felt in fam situations. In a previous study by the authors, published in Sociologische Gids, 1968, 15, the results suggested that the presence of a 3rd person tended to make women of 17 to 35 talk about their sex life in a more conservative fashion. In the study reported here, the results of the presence of a 3rd person were tested on a fam inquiry based on a nat'l sample of 1,432. A disturbing effect of the presence was noted; & the use of written cards instead of interviews failed to eliminate it. I. Langnas.
