Samenvatting

A report on a survey designed to determine the role of the teach-in as a new form of pol'al COMM. It covered 2 teach-ins organized by Erasmus House in Utrecht in Oct & Dec 1967 to rouse PO against municipal plans for the Ur renewal of Utrecht's inner city. It covered 200 out of 230 participants in the 1st teach-in & 137 out of 165 participants in the 2nd. The sample is analyzed according to sex (25% F's as compared to 50% of Utrecht pop; age (48% of 1st, 63% of 2nd between 20 & 39; Utrecht-29.5%); church membership (none: 49.5% & 46%; Utrecht: 20.8%); educ'al level (83.5% & 84.5%; no data on Utrecht); income level (58.5% & 47% above 'soc insurance level'; no data for Utrecht); pol'al parties (no Communists or right-wing Protestant party members). The following conclusions are drawn: (1) both teach-ins were pol'al; (2) they were effective in mobilizing persons of varied opinions; (3) they attracted the attention of the press; (4) they were hardly representative, since the participants were, in many ways, above the Utrecht average.
