Introducing length of birth-intervals & length of open intervals as an item in the pop census will be an important means toward a more efficient short- & long-term prognosis of pop. Length of birth intervals is influenced by: fecundity, sub-fecundity & pregnancy-wastage (all r'ed with age & age at marriage), birth control & number of previous births. It is possible to distinguish 6 types of fam-upbuilding, eg traditional, hedonistic, reactionary, rational I, rational II, & a subfecundity-pattern. In a sample of 384 R's, it appeared that these types, except for the subfecundity pattern, show signif diff's in %'s of: practice of birth control, length of birth intervals, number of children 5 yrs after marriage, number of children wanted, religion & educ of wife.
