measuring internal consistency of the Guttman scale

Samenvatting

The most well-known measurements of internal consistency of the Guttman scale are reproduction, the chance-reproduction, & Green's index of consistency ("A Method of Scalogram Analysis using Summary Statistics," Psychometrics, 1956, 21, 79 -- 88). J. Loevinger ("The Technique of Homogeneous Tests Compared with some Aspects of 'Scale Analysis' and Factor Analysis," Psychological Bulletin 1948, 45, 507-530) has developed some homogeneous coefficients. It is curious that Greens' index of consistency is more well-known than Loevinger's coefficients, but that could be because Greens' measurements are closer to the original Guttman idea. Green & Loevinger's measurements are basically the same, but differ on the counting of the errors. The probability of the model & the weakening of the demands lead to the question concerning now much more advantageous the cumulative idea in the model is than the common Likert scale. 1 Figure. D.
