Samenvatting

Literature concerning the analysis of industrial problems has always been prevalent in the USSR, & more recently, sociology & empirical investigations are gaining recognition. Although there is, to date, no sociological journal, a 2 volume work SOCIOLOGY IN USSR, G. V. Osipov, Ed, Moskva: Mysl', 1965 & 1966, devotes 20 chapters to theory or empirical investigation of work-related problems. Other sources indicate that the thrust of Soviet sociological work concentrates on complex organization & industrial production. Other topics of interest include job mobility, leisure time activities, & invention. Conclusions drawn from this brief survey include: (1) there exist obvious omissions in Soviet sociology re studies of labor organization, bargaining, strikes; (2) to date, the problem of increasing output has been the major concern; (3) the investigation of the leisure activities of employees is a central issue under investigation; (4) the importance of the Soviet-Polish research project SOTSIAL'NYE PROBLEMY TRUDA I PROIZVODSTVA. SOVETSKO-POL'SKOE SRAVNITEL'NOE ISSLEDOVANIE (Social Problems of Work and Production) G. V. Osipov & Ja Szczwpanskij, Eds, Moskva: Musl' & Ksiazka i Wiedza, Varshava, 1969, is emphasized as an important innovation in world sociology. J. Grimes.
