disciplinary punishment in the military

Samenvatting

A military commander has authority to use disciplinary punishment for light offenses. Military discipline law is not analyzed in the social sciences. Psychology & criminology focus on the punished person; disciplinary punishment is seen as an indicator for criminal behavior. Disciplinary rules are one element in a social control system; disciplinary punishment indicates types of rulings & the amount of coercion from higher ranked military personnel. Military sociologists claim this coercion has less influence with present technical military units. Sanction is seen as a way to influence behavior related to leadership. A sociological vision should include that the function of sanctioning is to maintain order. 1 Table. N. Hirschsohn.
