Three psychological theories of a classical sociologist

It is shown that, despite E. Durkheim's theoretical pronouncements to the contrary, he makes explicit & abundant use of psychological theories. Three of his psychological theories are considered: (1) the vitality theory, (2) the duality theory, & (3) the deliberation theory. It is shown that all three are involved in the concept of mechanical solidarity & in his social explanation of suicide. It is also shown how they are part of his social explanation of religion. It is hoped that sociologists will follow Durkheim's example of applying psychological theories to the explanation of social phenomena. A. Orianne.
