Samenvatting

A typology of labor activists is presented, in terms of the most important background variables suggested in the literature. A study was made of the workers at the Cerro de Pasco Corp, a Peruvian mining industry. Stepwise discriminant analysis was used. The characteristic traits of blue- & white-collar workers & of trade-union leaders are compared. White-collar workers are most dependent on the company & union leaders are the most militant. Differences in level of activism are explained in terms of the level of dependency on the company: one's chances of being militant increases as his level of dependency on the company decreases. The variables related to the technological DofL explain the level of militancy only to a small extent. The criterion "centrality of the camp location" is a better predictor. A. Orianne.
