Samenvatting
Conflicts in labor organizations are often initiated by trade union organizations. The development of a conflict depends on the potential of the parties to use the power at their disposal. Very seldom are all resources utilized. To determine the conditions under which union members are willing to support their union during a conflict, interview data were collected from 108 unionized workers at 2 different points of imminent conflict, before & after union attempts to mobilize support. It is shown that observed costs & profits in the ideological, social, & material spheres accounted for a change toward readiness for support & preferences for certain forms of action. Thus, the ratio of observed costs to profits determines the level of motivation to support the union. 4 Tables, 1 Figure, 7 References. Modified HA
