To determine the extent to which equal opportunity in the Netherlands has been advanced in the area of education, data from previous research projects (see SA 33:4/85Q0231 & 85Q0210) are subjected to secondary analysis. Two aggregate samples of students (N = 5,216 in 1952 & 1,291 in 1977) are examined, the independent variables including father's profession, sex of student, number of siblings, degree of urbanization, parents' educational level, & choice of secondary school. Some improvements can be reported in overall social mobility; neither the optimism of the 1960s nor the pessimism of the 1970s were warranted, according to these findings. 3 Tables, 2 Figures, 34 References.
