Samenvatting

J. J. M. van Tulder's classical investigation of intergenerational occupational mobility in the Netherlands in 1954 (Sociale stijging en daling in Nederland III, de beroepsmobiliteit in Nederland van 1919 tot 1954: Een sociaal-statistische studie [Social Rise and Fall in the Netherlands, Part III: Profesional Mobility in the Netherlands from 1919 to 1954: A Sociostatistical Study] Leyden: Stenfert-Kroese, 1962) is replicated with 1977 data from the Central Bureau of Statistics. It is shown that: (1) about 50% of the structural mobility can be modeled by a vertical shift parameter; (2) nearly all of the circulation mobility can be modeled by the linear distance parameter; (3) structural mobility was considerably larger in 1977 than in 1954, although its uniform part was almost the same for both years; & (4) circular mobility also grew, in contrast to the well-known results for the US reported by Robert M. Hauser (see SA 30:5/82M5935). 2 Tables, 2 Figures, 22 References. Modified HA
