The majority of the Dutch population (70%) are of the opinion that the Dutch social security system is abused by the unemployed. Except for those unable to work because of mental or physical disabilities, a negative view is taken of the unemployed. Statistical analysis of previously published research reveals that the r between political party preference & views on the unemployed & social security abuse is weak; however, education is an important variable, with the better-educated taking the problem of abuse less seriously & having less negative views of unemployed persons. 19 Tables, 1 Figure.
