Samenvatting

A comparison of recent Dutch works in the sociology of medicine, prompted by the publication of H. J. J. Leenen's Structuur en functioneren van de gezondheidszorg ([Structure and Functioning of Health Care] Alplen a/d Rijn: Samson, 1979). Differences in scope & definitions among various works are noted, indicating different focuses: health apparatus inventories, role of governmental instances, health care problems, synthesis of existing research, history of health care service, financial-economic aspects, or adoption of a normative orientation. Contemporary authors sometimes focus on several, but never all, of these perspectives. As a result, books with identical subjects only partially overlap. Furthermore, the adoption of a given focus reflects a particular conception of health care. Focus differences also result in different suggested solutions. The lack of macrolevel health care studies & lack of a centralized research policy are regretted. A. Orianne.
