A discussion of the acceptability of social policy research by the social science faculties of Us. The "policy-research-cycle," a wider variant of the so-called "empirical cycle" defined by the methodologist A. D. De Groot, is introduced. On the basis of this cycle, fourteen types of applied social research with policy-oriented applications are developed. Emphasized is the notion that the more phases of a cycle a given type of research passes through, the more acceptable it will be among U scientists. Also discussed are organizational conditions that must be satisfied for this kind of research to be undertaken successfully within a U structure. 3 Figures. Modified AA.
