A review of sociological research on the elderly in key fields first noted by Leo Turksma in 1968 (see SA 18:1-2/70E0851) including: aging as a process vs the elderly as a group; loss of roles in old age; typologies of old people; stereotyping the elderly; the old & the young; & local applied research. Problems that have been addressed by research since 1968 include: the future of care for the elderly, problems in homes for the aged, the elderly & the city, satisfaction of the elderly, the cost of care, & widowhood.
