Until Erik Olin Wright & Luca Perrone (see SA 25:4/77I7949) introduced the Marxist class variable, the status attainment theory was dominant in quantitative studies of social inequality & stratification. A replication of their study for the Netherlands based on economic data gathered by means of a questionnaire (N = 1,149 Rs) was performed to compare the effects of the Marxist class & occupational status variables on income; occuaptional status was found to better explain income variance. A significant r between SC & education for Ms was found. Significant differences in income returns on education between Ms & Fs were reported, even within SC categories. 4 Tables, 4 Figures.
