Samenvatting
A key problem of modern Marxist theory is the definition of class structure. The changes in the structure of capitalist society since the nineteenth century have called into question traditional Marxist teachings. Many disputes now exist between orthodox & neo-Marxists concerning the applicability of traditional Marxist class definitions to advanced capitalist economies. A literature survey reveals that although all Marxist authors distinguish between the bourgeoisie & the proletariat, there is wide disagreement as to where to draw the lower boundary of the former & the upper boundary of the latter. Special attention is given to Nicos Poulantzas's Classes in Contemporary Capitalism (London, 1975). M. Meeks
