The term "conservative" should be used carefully, since conservatism may be measured on two axes: cultural & economic. Four basic types of personality profiles may be distinguished based on whether one is conservative in terms of these 2 variables. To illustrate such differences, questionnaire data were obtained from Dutch adults (N = 1,007, aged 18-70) about their attitudes on a variety of SE issues. A multidimensional analysis confirms the validity of the hypothesis that one may be conservative in economic thought but liberal on social issues, & vice versa.
