Samenvatting
Several theories of the lesser professional participation of F general practitioners are compared: role theory, rational choice theory, & the labor market theory of statistical discrimination. On the basis of this examination a theoretical model is proposed, which comprises two stages: an explanation of why F general practitioners usually choose to work in less independent forms of practice than men do, & an explanation of why men & women have different levels of success in realizing the kinds of practice they seek. 3 Tables, 16 References.
