Samenvatting

Since 1950, mortality trends in the Netherlands & Belgium have been very similar: F life expectancy increased sharply, & M life expectancy first declined & then rose slightly. In this period, mortality rates at young ages declined consistently; at middle & old ages they first increased & then dropped abruptly. In both countries there are still large regional, SE, & ethnic differences.
